Last Minute Gifts
This time of the year I get and will be getting more and more last minute gifts. Last minute holiday gifts, last minute birthday gifts, etc. Folks call, write emails to rush the deliveries. Today a guy from Florida ordered a girl with a jump rope necklace.
Check out below in comments what he wrote about the rush delivery. I’ll definitely rush his order for… honesty.
COMMENTS / ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Hi, I’ve been looking for this necklace for awhile (I saw it in NY but forgot the website and couldn’t find it on google).
I’m getting it for my girlfriend’s birthday which is November 24– I’m willing to pay extra if necessary but is there any way I could get it shipped faster? If it’s not here before the 24th I’ll look like an asshole who forgot her birthday. Thanks and let me know!

Halloween
Halloween in NYC
OK, this costume was the most creative one! A guy was dressed as bread, another one as cheddar cheese and a girl as an egg. I asked the bread guy "do you guys always walk together?" "Yes, cause if not, I’m just a toast…" For more pictures see my flickr
Halloween Costumes Halloween Parade
I am so excited Halloween is here! Really excited. And I’m glad it’s on a Friday this year. No more weird parties on the weekend before Halloween where you don’t know if you should dress up… It’s going to be really crazy.
The parade will start on 6th Av and Canal. For those who would like to walk in the Halloween Parade, be there at 5:30pm. The parade will start at 7pm and will go up the 6th avenue to 21st street. Not only 6th avenue but the whole village will be crazy. I still get a kick out of living in the middle of it, which just tells me I belong in downtown New York.
I’m so excited to see all my friends tomorrow. Those, who have already revealed their costumes and those who will surprise.
This is a picture from last year full of fun. I was a Tin Man, or a Tin Girl rather…
Happy Halloween everyone!!!

Meeting Matt Allen aka Icecream Man
Taking a stroll downtown Manhattan on Friday afternoon, I saw Matt Allen, also known as Icecream Man. Matt was on Thompson and Broom doing his usual thing - giving away free icecream. He has been driving all over the States and up to day has given over 170,000 icecream, all free. His goal is to reach 500,000 treats. At first I wanted to find out the reason why he is doing it, then I decided to be a little girl again and not look for closures and business reasons.
Instead, Matt and I talked about the fun of doing it and his next destinations. We chatted and enjoyed the icecream. Icecream Man will be going to Long Island and Austin, Texas next. Matt, I truly wish you all the best! Thank you for spreading the love through icecream!
Painting Election on Canvas in Central Park
Last weekend in Central Park I stumbled upon Ann George Redmond, a New York artist who decided to let us express ourselves on her canvas. She had a set of paints, a color chart and canvas inviting everyone to grab a color and paint according to our main issues regarding the election. The color chart looked as follows:

So most people passing by would grab their color and paint! I think it’s an unusual idea and most people were stopping to paint and talk to the artist. Ann George Redmond is planning to collect 50 canvas and is looking for a gallery willing to host the exhibit.

Official Bursting of Web 2.0 bubble video
When I first saw the Official Bursting of Web 2.0 bubble video on Friday, it had 200 views. The video shows a group of "tech elite", as Techcrunch puts it, having fun, partying in Cyprus and lip syncing a video "Don’t Stop Believing". Among the techies were Facebook, Google, Wall Street Journal, blip.tv employees, etc. Now the video is at over 20,000 views, got a coverage from Techcrunch, and numerous responses commenting if it was appropriate to post the video in the recession times.
Techcrunch goes even further saying that the video will be always associated with the end of Web 2.0.
Wondering what was on these folks minds’ when they posted the video I came up with the following: economy, Web 2.0 and every business have the ups and downs, why would we stop having fun? And that’s exactly my reaction.
It’s a break in all the complaining I’ve been trying to block but have been hearing.

How Far Can a Brand Extension Go Before Losing the Customer
.jpg)
There is nothing unusual about this boot… Well it’s in my favorite color, I love wearing white in the winter and it’s from a new collection. The boot is also made by Puma… Yes, the urban sneaker master made this boot for the fall season. When I first saw it and noticed it was made by Puma, I got confused. I have been always associating Puma with a sporty, urban sneaker look. But because I like the brand, I had a closer look at the boots and started liking them. Also the brand extension didn’t reach that far. A boot is still a shoe.
Introducing a new category may be risky when the companies are competing for the customers’ business where they have loyalties to the established brands. One of the examples of the brand extension failures is Bic. Bic, known for its disposable pens attempted to make disposable pantyhose. In this case the competition with the established brands producing pantyhose was not the problem. I imagine there were probably many issues they encountered - trust and the acceptance, novelty of the product just to name a few. Another example is Coors and its idea of spring water, which didn’t quite work. But then the extension of the Coca-Cola brand and introduction of Dasani water worked perfectly.
The question is how far is too far? Another question is how likable is the brand? I know that if Apple came up with spring water or boots, I’d be the first one to buy it. Even if it involved waiting in line.
